Since launching the IP Crime Strategy in 2004 the Intellectual Property Office has undertaken a wide variety of awareness raising activities for industry, enforcement officers and consumers to highlight the threat posed by IP crime.

Raising awareness of IP

We work with educational establishments and organisations promoting the importance of intellectual property to successful business.

Intellectual Property Crime Group

A collaborated approach within the IP crime community is essential to combat IP crime, and the Intellectual Property Office administered National IP Crime Group meets this need.

Annual IP Crime Report

The IP Crime Group produces the Annual IP Crime Report PDF document(3.12Mb) used to inform Government, local authorities and the wider law enforcement and criminal justice organisations about the IP crime problems the UK faces. The latest report was launched on 9 August 2011.

The Supply Chain Toolkit PDF document(448Kb)

The new Supply Chain Toolkit, updated in November 2011, is intended to help individuals and businesses to be aware of the growing risk from counterfeit goods getting into business supply chains - it also provides guidance on how to protect your IP assets and what to do if things go wrong.

Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA) Leaflet PDF document(89Kb)

The Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA) Leaflet was launched on the 26 May 2009 to raise awareness of the Act. Targeting consumers and market traders, the leaflet warns would-be buyers and traders of counterfeit goods of the real cost - not only in terms of economic damage but also the risks to health and safety.

IP crime in the workplace

The Intellectual Property Office commissioned research PDF document(640Kb) to understand the scale of IP crime in the workplace and identify the next step forward with this problem. IP crime in the workplace is a work stream of the IP Crime Group.

Guide to offences

There are a number of criminal IP offences that may be committed by individuals who produce, distribute or sell counterfeit and pirated goods.

IpCass

This is a unique search engine designed to help you locate cases involving the private or public prosecution of criminal IP offences.

The Intellectual Property Office supports efforts such as Brand-i External Link to help consumers avoid buying fake products. As a government agency we do not endorse individual brands.
